I've been reading a few books on personal finances recently and one of the principles consistently cited as being essential to financial freedom is letting go of the past. One of the authors calls the failure to do so rearview living. It's impossible to navigate by looking into the rearview mirror and yet so many of us try to live while looking through the lens of our pasts. We try to persist in the optimism of bygone golden days, or we trudge along carrying the onus of too many wasted days. Neither is healthy or very productive. We are to learn from the past, not dwell on it indefinitely.
"When we... go back into the past and rake up all the troubles we've had, we end up reeling and staggering through life. Stability and peace of mind come by living in the moment." Pam Vredevelt
