I love nature. There's nothing like a clear, bright day when I can enjoy the fresh air and not die from pollen allergies. Sometimes I see things and I wish I were one of those kids that carries a camera everywhere. But really I think I need to just learn to enjoy the moment. I love photographs, but I can't help but feel that they can never fully capture the beauty of the moment, no matter how much editing you do. With all my tennis pictures, I can never really capture the excitement or tension of the point. And all the pictures of nature can never convey the total sense of tranquility. It still lacks the sounds and the scents that complete the moment.
I recently read a poem about the new heaven and the new earth and it made me think of this. The world as we know it is just some old, faded photograph. There was a time when it was bright and inspiring. But over time it's been worn down and now you have to try to find the beauty in it. But this poem got me excited about the future. It helped me to think about the new earth and how we'll get to know the real thing and not just some sad imitation. Even now I'm filled with hope just thinking of how we'll one day experience the world as God intended it. Maybe my dog will be there too, and he won't have to suffer in all the ways he did on this earth. It won't be a struggle just for him to breathe. The pain in my knees will be gone. We will be free. Free from sin-- free from suffering.
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal - 2 Corinthians 4:18
